CEDAR (Children Experiencing Domestic Abuse Recovery) programme will offer group work sessions to children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse. There will be a parallel group for mothers.
Initially three CEDAR programmes will be introduced in Scotland, with one of them being in Forth Valley. The programme is based on the successful model, which was developed in Canada and later brought to the UK.
Sessions will run for 12 weeks and will help children & mothers explore their experiences of domestic abuse, understand their feelings, learn that it was not their fault, talk about how to deal with family changes and discuss what they can do to stay safe.
In the mothers group, women will be supported to understand the impact of domestic abuse on their child and how best to talk about this and be supportive.
Referrals onto the programme are made directly to the Group Coordinators. If you would like to know more please email us or phone the Children’s Group Coordinator, Susan Walker, on 07717 544 502 or the Women’s Group Coordinator, Joyce Whyte, on 07717 544 537
